We've been to our Asian neighbors which require visas yet we've never been to Hong Kong and Macau. As the day of our trip neared, Hong Kong lawmakers passed a bill or something requiring visas to Filipinos. We were so worried our trip would get cancelled.
Upon arriving in Hong Kong, we immediately booked a ferry trip to Macau for an overnight stay. We lucked out on a good deal at the Venetian.
We arrived in Macau quite late in the afternoon so after a quick late lunch, we set out to explore the place.
On our way to the Ruins of St. Paul's, we tried the famous egg tarts.
The Ruins of St. Paul's
Yummy jerky.
The spectacular Wynn fountain light show.
Early morning in Macau
Since we were leaving at lunch and the Venetian was so huge, we decided to just explore the hotel.
We again arrived late in Hong Kong so after checking in at the Yui Fai Guesthouse, we rode a tram to Causeway Bay. A bit about Yu Fai: it is conveniently located along Nathan Road so it is walking distance to Silvercord mall and Victoria Harbor. The rooms are clean but a bit small. Our room had twin beds so hubby and I felt like were dorm mates hehe (especially since we ate cup noodles for breakfast!).
We were quite tired then so we just looked around and ate dinner at a ramen place in Sogo. The next day, hubby and I squeezed in some time in the morning exploring the harbor and nearby areas.
Later, we made our way to Lantau to ride the Ngong Ping 360. We rode the Crystal cabin on the way to Ngong Ping village which meant the car has a transparent floor. We thought it was going to be scary but not really.
Tian Tan Buddha
We also spent some time at the Citygate Outlets located near Ngong Ping 360. The two hours we allotted was simply not enough hehe. Mainly because I spent my time vacillating between buying a bag or not.
We also went to Silvercord Mall to eat at Din Tai Fung but the line was kinda long so we ate at Coco Ichibanya Curry House - hubby's fave curry place. I think this was also the night we went to the Mong Kok night market to buy pasalubong.
The next day, hubby and I made sure that we'd be having lunch at Din Tai Fung. Of course we tried the famous pork xiao long bao, pork and vegetable shao mai and pork chop fried rice. We also had the red bean dumpling.
We went to The Peak and Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. My photos there are in my phone and I'm lazy to interperse them between my camera photos haha. We ended the night with a walk along the harbor and to watch the "famous" light show, which, IMHO, we should have skipped hehe.
Our second to the last day in Hong Kong was all about Disneyland. But first, since it was my SIL's birthday, she treated us to brunch at a nearby Tsui Wah restaurant. We especially liked the crispy bun with condensed milk.
Now, I've never been to Disneyland, I never imagined it would be a bit small. Maybe the one in the US is bigger? That said, we only managed to ride the train that goes around the park, that ride in Toy Story Land, the Buzz Light Year and Autopia in Tomorrowland.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Festival of the Lion King show, so did my nephew-in-law who likes animals.
People go to Hong Kong to shop and I felt bitin with the shopping part. I intend to go back and just shop so I hope hope hope that they'd forget about requiring a visa. Sigh!
